Viva Joseph Creek! The 2026 Homeowner’s Guide to Fiesta

As we approach the most vibrant time of year in the Alamo City, Joseph Creek Homes is ready to celebrate! Whether you are settling into your new custom home or still dreaming of that perfect Texas Hill Country build, Fiesta is the time when our community truly shines.
Since Fiesta San Antonio 2026 officially runs from April 16th to April 26th, we’ve put together the ultimate guide to help you navigate the "Party with a Purpose."
About Fiesta: A San Antonio Tradition
Fiesta started in 1891 as a one-parade event (the Battle of Flowers) to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Today, it has grown into a 10-day celebration of San Antonio’s diverse culture.
- The Royalty: You’ll see King Antonio (selected by the Texas Cavaliers) and El Rey Feo (the "People's King") presiding over events. They spend the year raising money for scholarships, making them true community leaders.
- The Medals: What started as "coins" has turned into a city-wide obsession. Businesses, schools, and even families create custom Fiesta Medals. The goal? Collect as many as possible to pin to your sash or vest!
- "Show Us Your Shoes!": During the Battle of Flowers parade, keep an eye on the Duchesses and Queens on the floats. Though they wear elaborate, heavy gowns, it’s tradition for the crowd to yell "Show us your shoes!" to reveal their decorated cowboy boots or sneakers underneath.
The Big Kick-Off & The Carnival
Fiesta Fiesta at Travis Park
- When: Thursday, April 16, 2026 | 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- The official opening ceremony! This is the best place to start your medal collection at the "Pin Pandemonium" and enjoy live music in the heart of downtown.
The Fiesta Carnival
- When: April 16 – 26, 2026
- Where: Alamodome Parking Lot C
- A family favorite! From the Ferris wheel to funnel cakes, the carnival is a staple. (Pro-tip: Wednesday, April 22, is typically "Dollar Ride Day.")
The "Big Three" Parades
You haven't truly experienced Fiesta until you've sat on a curb (or a bleacher) for one of these:
Texas Cavaliers River Parade
(Monday, April 20, 2026): Over 50 decorated floats "march" down the San Antonio River. This year's theme is “Through the Decades: A Centennial Celebration.”
Battle of Flowers Parade
(Friday, April 24, 2026): The only parade in the U.S. produced entirely by women. This is the oldest Fiesta event and a city-wide holiday—most San Antonians have the day off!
Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade
(Saturday, April 25, 2026): The largest illuminated night parade in the country. This year’s theme is “Adventures in Toyland.” Seeing the floats glow against the night sky is unforgettable.
Can’t-Miss Annual Events
If you’re looking for the best food and atmosphere, these are the "heavy hitters":
St. Mary’s Oyster Bake
(April 17–18, 2026): Held at St. Mary’s University, this features over 100,000 oysters (raw, baked, and fried) and massive rock headliners like Switchfoot and Candlebox this year.
NIOSA (A Night in Old San Antonio)
(April 21–24, 2026): Located in historic La Villita, this is four nights of heritage-themed areas. You must try a Maria’s Tortilla and an Anticucho (steak kebab).
Taste of the Northside
(Thursday, April 23, 2026): Now held at The Rock at La Cantera, this is a more upscale, all-inclusive event featuring food from San Antonio's best restaurants and premium cocktails.
King William Fair
(Saturday, April 25, 2026): A beautiful arts and crafts fair set in the historic King William District. It’s the perfect "chill" alternative to the downtown crowds.
Fiesta at Home with Joseph Creek Homes
Building a custom home means building a space for entertaining. Whether you are hosting a pre-parade brunch in your open-concept kitchen or cooling off on your covered patio after a day at the parades, we hope your home is the center of your 2026 celebration.
